The Nursing Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership and clinical oversight in nursing operations during designated shifts. This role involves conducting rounds to ensure high standards of care and adherence to established policies and regulations. The Nursing Supervisor is also tasked with responding to emergencies and supervising nursing personnel, including their orientation, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions when necessary. The individual in this position will engage with the Arizona Management System (AMS) methodologies, utilizing its principles for problem-solving and enhancing operational efficiencies while maintaining a focus on Veteran-centered care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee nursing staff during assigned shifts.
  • Conduct timely performance evaluations.
  • Provide guidance and counseling to staff.
  • Recommend disciplinary actions as necessary.
  • Manage admissions and discharges from the facility.
  • Conduct rounds in Veteran areas to ensure quality care.
  • Address all Veteran concerns promptly.
  • Deliver direct patient care as needed.
  • Perform advanced nursing procedures when required.
  • Offer support and guidance to nursing staff on clinical matters.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant policies and regulations.
  • Manage daily staff assignments to meet patient needs efficiently.
  • Adjust staffing as necessary to maintain adequate coverage.
  • Participate in the recruitment and selection of nursing staff.
  • Facilitate orientation for new hires.
  • Assist in planning and delivering training for staff.
  • Contribute to the development of policies and procedures.
  • Support quality assurance initiatives.
  • Act decisively in emergency situations.
  • Report significant issues to higher management as per protocols.
  • Assist in investigations as needed.
  • Manage inventory of supplies and medications during off-hours.
  • Engage in AMS processes including Huddle Boards and Problem Solving.
  • Actively participate in the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program.
  • Serve on various committees and attend relevant meetings.
  • Complete special projects as assigned.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Comprehensive understanding of nursing principles and practices in a skilled nursing context.
  • Knowledge of geriatric nursing theories and practices.
  • Awareness of resident health conditions and evolving care needs.
  • Familiarity with community and medical resources for quality care.
  • Proficiency in team nursing practices and treatment plan development.
  • Understanding of pharmacology and medication management.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations governing nursing practices.
  • Effective supervisory skills and staff development principles.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a Skilled Nursing or Long-term Care environment.
  • Prior supervisory or management experience in nursing.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Current negative TB skin test or medical clearance.
  • Ability to obtain a fingerprint clearance card.
  • Valid RN license in the State of Arizona.
  • Current CPR certification.
