The Patient Access Advisor plays a crucial role in managing the registration workflow and related functions. This includes:
- Verifying insurance coverage
- Validating medical necessity
- Collecting payments at the point of service
- Securing authorized signatures on various documents
- Digitally archiving documents into the electronic health record
- Handling faxing and photocopying tasks
Patient registration duties are performed in both centralized and decentralized settings within the healthcare facility and outpatient service areas. The Patient Access Advisor is also tasked with fostering effective communication across the organization to ensure cohesive team operations. This role involves engaging with patients, collaborating with department colleagues, and liaising with managers, directors, and medical staff to address challenges and enhance the overall patient experience.
Qualifications and Experience:
Experience in an acute care hospital, physician's office, or similar healthcare environment is preferred but not essential.
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Prior experience in Patient Access or Registration is advantageous but not mandatory. Certification such as CHAA/CHAM is desirable but not required.
