Job Summary

The Building People, LLC, is seeking a highly skilled Environmental Safety Manager to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all environmental and safety regulations, including those related to fire protection, occupational health and safety, and environmental protection.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in environmental management, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in field management of EPA and OSHA regulations. AHERA Asbestos Inspector training and Hazardous Waste Site Operation training are required within 6 months of acceptance of the position.

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with management, staff, and subcontractors. They will also have a strong understanding of environmental and safety regulations, as well as the ability to develop and implement effective safety programs.

The position requires a valid driver's license and the ability to pass a government background investigation. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to safety and environmental stewardship.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental and safety regulations, including EPA and OSHA requirements
  • Develop and implement effective safety programs, including hazard assessments, safety audits, and training programs
  • Conduct regular safety site visits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with regulations
  • Manage hazardous materials and waste, including procurement, storage, and disposal
  • Develop and implement a system to manage hazardous materials and MSDS in accordance with OSHA Hazard Communication standards
  • Coordinate with management, HR, and staff for workers' compensation claims
  • Develop job safety analyses (JSAs) to support restricted-duty work assignments, claims management, and development of safety and quality standard operating procedures
  • Perform safety surveys (e.g., noise surveys, air monitoring, time and motion studies) to support personal protective equipment policies
  • Manage PPE program by procurement of proper equipment and employee training
  • Develop and implement a system to manage hazardous materials and MSDS in accordance with OSHA Hazard Communication standards
  • Coordinate and execute employee safety training as required
  • Inspect work accomplished by staff and subcontractor personnel, to identify any flaws or defects
  • Inspect vendor subcontractors' work at the project location to ensure safety and quality compliance
  • Coordinate with subcontractor functional managers and supervisors to ensure quality workmanship and timely completion of all tasks
Requirements
  • 5 years of recent (within the past 10 years) responsible experience in field management of EPA and OSHA regulations
  • AHERA Asbestos Inspector training and Hazardous Waste Site Operation training within 6 months of acceptance of the position
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge in implementing environmental and safety programs
  • Proficiency in oral and written communication in English
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to input data into the system and generate various reports and correspondence as required
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to successfully pass government background investigation
Preferred Qualifications
  • 10 years of environmental management experience serving in a federal campus-style setting, including food services, ammunition, janitorial, industrial operations, and maintenance
