Job Summary
The Assistant Director of College Facilities and Safety at Virginia Tech plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient operation, maintenance, and safety of facilities within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. This position has the exciting opportunity to support the college's mission of excellence in education, research, and outreach across the state.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee improvements to physical infrastructure, including state-of-the-art laboratories, teaching spaces, and agricultural research facilities.
- Develop project scopes, estimate costs, and track expenses to keep projects on budget.
- Manage construction projects, ensuring compliance with state and local safety, fire, building code, and construction regulations.
- Perform safety evaluations, audits, or inspections, and develop strategies to mitigate risks.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships across the organization and with external constituents.
- Travel to on-campus and off-campus facilities throughout Virginia to ensure compliance and provide support.
Requirements
- Master's degree in facilities management, engineering, building construction, or a relevant field, or a bachelor's degree in the same disciplines with significant applicable work experience.
- Experience in facility management, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and prioritize assignments.
- Ability to travel and work in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a higher education, academic, or research environment.
- Experience delivering safety training and creating educational materials.
- Working knowledge of OSHA standards and the ability to interpret and apply them.
- Certified Facility Manager, Facility Management Professional, Certified Construction Manager, or Certified Safety Professional.
