The purpose of this position is to conduct highly specialized research under at a level with latitude for creativity in both theoretical and experimental applications.

SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY:

Involves no responsibility or authority for the direction of others.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

Internal contacts are with a variety of staff, faculty and students. External contacts are with staff of the granting agency and outside vendors for the purpose of gathering and exchanging information.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Perform experimental designs and routine observations for sponsored research projects.
  • Assist on the balloon activities for the GRUAN, and MDE projects at Howard University, Beltsville Campus (HUBC).
  • She/He will be responsible for the ozonesonde and cryongenic frost-point hygrometer probes preparation.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and researchers' members engaged in academic research at HUBC and/or research activities associated with HUBC.
  • Assist in the evaluation and interpretation of experimental data and quality control of observational measurements.
  • Assist in conducting workshops that will benefit staff working with certain targeted populations. Make conference and outreach presentations regarding research projects.
  • Assist/diagnose problems/repairs and/or operates research equipment for the development of research data as required.
  • Assist in data analysis, such as statistical analyses for advanced and comprehensive research projects, which include consulting with other researchers to derive an understanding of the hypothesis and experimental approach and deciding upon appropriate statistical analyses for various designs.

  • Ability to develop and write manuscripts and make presentations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relations with faculty, staff, students, university officials and the general public.
  • Ability to generate and follow detailed operational procedures.
  • Possess some computer skills including but not limited to spreadsheets, word processors, and some experience with scientific programming.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • B.Sc. in Atmospheric Sciences or related discipline.
