Reports to: Clinical Supervisor

Position Summary

The Student Counselor will assist clients in reaching their treatment objectives through both individual and group counseling services, all while gaining essential field experience and meeting educational requirements.

Key Responsibilities (85%)
  • Conduct initial assessments and develop transition plans.
  • Provide individual and group counseling services under licensed supervision, utilizing evidence-based therapeutic techniques.
  • Facilitate group therapy sessions to foster peer support and education regarding substance use disorders.
  • Maintain a manageable client caseload.
  • Participate in staff meetings, supervision sessions, and training workshops as required.
  • Develop and monitor individualized treatment plans, adjusting as necessary based on client progress.
  • Document client interactions, treatment plans, and progress notes accurately and timely.
  • Ensure regular attendance and participation in all required activities.
Additional Responsibilities (15%)
  • Continuously assess patient progress in relation to treatment.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Coordinate with external agencies as needed for treatment functions.
  • Keep supervisors informed of any challenges encountered.
  • Engage in professional development activities to maintain licensure and stay updated on best practices.
  • Monitor and provide coverage for agency crisis line.
  • Interpret referral documents to determine appropriate care levels.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education and experience as mandated by the certifying board for field placement.
  • Strong teamwork skills and adherence to agency policies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Clear and organized communication skills.
  • Ability to empathize with clients facing multiple challenges.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working with diverse populations and various treatment modalities.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be accessible via standard communication methods during working hours.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
  • Valid driver's license and personal transportation may be necessary.
