About the Role

This position is responsible for overseeing the comprehensive Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) programs for the Saint-Gobain Group's Portland, OR facility, ensuring compliance with ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 standards. The incumbent will be responsible for minimizing EHS risks and reducing potential liabilities. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the development and implementation of EHS policies, procedures, and safety incentives to enhance safety continually.
  • Monitoring and recommending new EHS programs based on regulations.
  • Ensuring site internal EHS standards, requirements, and external (ISO) requirements are met.
  • Ensuring all employee safety training requirements are met.
  • Performing and updating risk assessments for routine and non-routine tasks.
  • Working in coordination with department managers and regional EHS Manager.
  • Interacting effectively with all plant personnel and contractors; strong social skills required.
  • Ensuring effective communication of EHS matters and prompt response to employee concerns.
  • Ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations for waste, emissions, water, and health records.
  • Evaluating project environmental impact and implementing mitigation measures.
  • Coordinating safety incident investigations and ensuring prompt corrective actions.
  • Actively participating in daily production meetings.
  • Managing EHS calendars with periodic review.
  • Coordinating with management to schedule maintenance and upgrades for safety equipment.

**Requirements**

  • Bachelor's Degree required (Occupational Safety & Health and/or Environmental Management Degree Preferred)
  • Three to five years of experience (manufacturing environment preferred)
  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office including Excel/Word/PowerPoint
  • Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical computations at a level required for successful job performance
  • Ability to perform all operations within acceptable quality and time standards
  • Ability to effectively present information to employees at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of changing situations
