Brief Summary of Job Duties:
Under supervision, performs a variety of responsibilities related to the Radiation Safety Program.
Oversees the radioactive waste management program, including the collection and processing of radioactive waste, along with the completion and maintenance of associated records.
Assists in the Laser Safety inventory and inspection program. Manages the personnel radiation dosimetry program.Supports other areas of radiation safety, including radioisotope laboratory inspections and monitoring, radioactive material inventory and tracking, fume hood quality assurance checks, and meter calibration.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience/training.
1-3 years of experience in a relevant area.
Solid, comprehensive working knowledge/understanding of a specific EH&S field including related laws and regulations, and general understanding.
Strong organizational skills to plan, organize, and prioritize multiple projects.
Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal skills to communicate efficiently in a diverse environment.
Proficient in the appropriate use of technology and relevant scientific equipment as required.
Special Conditions of Employment:
Maintain a valid CA driver's license, a clean DMV record, and enrollment in the DMV Employer Pull-Notice Program.
Satisfactory conviction history background check.
Must be physically able to wear a self-contained breathing apparatus.
Capable of moving heavy objects (i.e., 55-gallon drums filled with liquid).
Must be willing to work and respond to emergencies.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:
50% - Radioactive Waste Program: Manages the radioactive waste program: includes pickup, processing, sampling/analysis, and disposal of radioactive/mixed waste and execution of the decay in storage program.
25% - Radiation Safety: Assists in various areas of radiation safety, including: monitoring and distributing incoming radioactive material packages, executing the meter calibration program, maintaining radiation safety inventory records, fume hood quality assurance, radioisotope lab surveys and inspections, and responding to EH&S related incidents, spills.
Assists other EH&S staff as needed.10% - Personnel Dosimetry Program: Manages the radiation dosimetry program: distribution, receipt, and tracking of personnel monitoring badges, performing personnel bioassays and radiation dose assessments.
15% - Laser Safety Program: Assists the campus LSO in the review of Class 3b and Class 4 laser system purchases and the evaluation/assessment of specific laser hazards.
Maintains current inventory and inspection records. Reviews SOPs and alignment procedures. Participates in accident investigations.UC Vaccination Programs Policy:
