Job Summary

The Shady Rest Institute on Positive Aging and the Department of Health Sciences at Florida Gulf Coast University invite applications for an Assistant Professor position in the area of long-term care administration with a focus on aging/gerontology.

The Shady Rest Institute on Positive Aging was established to strengthen interdisciplinary inquiry on aging and the life course, advancing research to optimize the aging experience and preparing future leaders for the field of gerontology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Conduct research/scholarship
  • Participate on College and University committees and/or initiatives
  • Work effectively with various populations of students, colleagues, and members of the community
  • Support the overall work of both the Department of Health Sciences and the Shady Rest Institute on Positive Aging
Requirements

Earned doctoral degree in Gerontology/Aging Studies, Health Administration, Long-Term Care Administration, or closely related field from a nationally accredited institution.

ABD will be considered if degree is conferred by August 7, 2025. If successful candidate is ABD, appointment will be made at a Lecturer level on a fixed contract.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Evidence of quality teaching and meaningful service
  • Experience teaching courses relevant to aging/gerontology
  • Focus on interdisciplinary research addressing current topics related to aging/gerontology
  • Demonstrated record of scholarly/creative achievement through presentation, publication, and/or performance commensurate with career stage
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of major concepts, assumptions, debates, processes of inquiry, and ways of knowing that are central to the discipline(s)
  • Understanding how to use digital and interactive technologies for efficiently and effectively achieving specific learning goals
  • Knowledge of critical thinking processes and understanding how to help learners develop high-level questioning skills
