Position Overview:

This role is primarily focused on the Fairfield County area. The Major Gifts Officer plays a crucial role in managing relationships with a diverse portfolio of key stakeholders, including major donors, family foundations, corporations, and planned giving prospects. This position entails the entire donor lifecycle from identification and cultivation to engagement, solicitation, and stewardship. The Major Gifts Officer acts as a primary relationship manager, overseeing approximately 125 donors through personalized outreach, ensuring strong donor retention and increased contributions through meaningful interactions. Collaboration with other leaders is essential to prepare meeting materials and participate in donor visits, including the solicitation of major gifts (starting at $5K). Post-meeting evaluations and data entry into the CRM database are critical for tracking progress towards private support revenue goals. This position reports directly to the Senior Director of Strategic Giving.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of donors, identifying opportunities for innovative and increased giving.
  • Enhance and deepen relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Strategically prioritize donors based on their giving capacity and potential for further engagement.
  • Effectively manage donor relationships through information discovery and communication with team members.
  • Develop impactful messaging tailored for major donors and other funding sources.
  • Collaborate with the Giving Team to strategize donor meeting focuses.
  • Schedule and lead donor meetings, making solicitations aimed at closing gifts at targeted or increased amounts.
  • Work alongside leadership to identify key prospects for enhanced solicitation and engagement.
  • Analyze data to identify new prospects, cultivating and successfully soliciting them for major gift donations.
  • Represent Connecticut Foodshare at various events to promote our mission.
  • Monitor donor engagement and generate regular reports to assess progress towards goals.
  • Collaborate with staff to maximize donor interactions.
  • Assist with additional fundraising projects and events as necessary.
  • Contribute to the development of cross-functional projects involving portfolio donors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must reside in Fairfield County.
  • Experience working with donors in the Fairfield County area.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, communications, or a related field with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or 6 years of equivalent experience.
  • Experience in the non-profit sector.
  • Proven track record of soliciting and securing five-figure gifts.
  • Established connections with funders and networks.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in a related field with 2+ years of relevant experience, or 8+ years of progressively responsible experience in a similar role.

  • Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) designation.
  • Experience with moves management and CRM systems for tracking donor interactions.

Physical and Mental Demands:

Physical demands may include sitting or standing as needed, occasional walking, and lifting up to 5 lbs. Work may require evening and weekend hours to support events.

Mental demands involve reading, analyzing, and interpreting various forms of written information, authoring reports and correspondence, and managing multiple priorities and deadlines. The ability to solve practical problems and make decisions based on limited standardization is essential.

Work Environment:

The daily work environment is typical of an office setting, with standard ambient temperatures and noise levels associated with traditional office equipment.

Travel Requirements:

Frequent travel to donor meetings and events is expected.
