Position Overview
The Mortgage Loan Originator is primarily responsible for the origination of mortgage loans, focusing on the Northshore market for both investor delivery and portfolio retention. This role involves taking applications, performing preliminary underwriting assessments, and submitting loan applications for processing and approval. The individual will ensure timely follow-up to secure necessary documents for processing, underwriting, and closing from the relevant sources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct interviews with potential and existing clients to ascertain their borrowing requirements.
  • Clarify the distinctions between various mortgage approval criteria and prepare tailored lending packages based on client needs.
  • Assist clients in completing mortgage applications, ensuring all documents are accurate and comprehensive.
  • Evaluate loan applications, collect credit histories and reports, and analyze the applicant's repayment capacity and risk of default.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with local real estate agents, developers, and builders to promote the bank's residential mortgage services.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in mortgage loan origination is required.
  • Familiarity with underwriting standards for FNMA, FMC, FHA, VA, local bonding programs, and private investors.
  • Basic understanding of relevant local, state, and federal regulations, including zoning laws, Truth-in-Lending, RESPA, and energy audit requirements.
