Delta Star specializes in providing comprehensive power solutions for utilities throughout North America. Our offerings include the production of medium-power transformers, mobile transformers, mobile electrical substations, and unitized substations. We also deliver extensive engineering, testing, and maintenance services to ensure optimal performance of transformers across various applications.

Role Purpose

The primary responsibility of this position is to design and engineer control systems for small and medium power transformers, as well as mobile substations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and draft control schematics that align with customer specifications, industry standards, and company guidelines, focusing on cost-effectiveness and quality.
  • Provide ongoing support to Quality, Production, and Field Service teams throughout the production process and address any on-site challenges.
  • Encourage and implement initiatives aimed at continuous improvement for both personal and team performance, contributing positively to the company's objectives.

Specific Duties

  • Execute tasks as directed by the Engineering Manager or Controls Group Lead.
  • Review project documentation, including purchase orders and customer specifications, to ensure accurate design execution.
  • Create schematic and wiring diagrams, as well as cabinet layout drawings for customer approval and production use.
  • Select appropriate transformer instruments and gauges according to design requirements and established standards.
  • Prepare Bill of Materials (BOM), evaluate vendor quotes, and manage material requisition through the ERP system.
  • Engage in cross-functional activities such as customer meetings and project reviews.
  • Address technical inquiries and provide reports as needed for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Inspect manufactured cabinets for quality assurance and workmanship.
  • Assist the Control Test department with troubleshooting control-related issues as required.
  • Guide assembly or field service teams to ensure successful operational start-up.
  • Research and analyze new products and market trends to incorporate into innovative designs.

Qualifications and Experience

Control Engineer

  • Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in power transformer controls, including at least 3 years in control design.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Vanilla; experience with AutoCAD Electrical is advantageous.

Senior Control Engineer

  • Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in power transformer controls, including at least 7 years in control design.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Vanilla; experience with AutoCAD Electrical and substation design is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficient in MS Office applications such as Word and Excel, as well as ERP systems.
  • Skilled in drafting tools: AutoCAD Vanilla and Electrical.
  • Familiarity with NEMA, IEEE, CSA, and IEC standards for control panel design.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Understanding of basic circuit theories and experience with monitoring devices for transformers.
  • Knowledge of various transformer LTC schemes from different manufacturers.

Travel Requirements

  • Minimal travel is expected.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • The role requires the ability to perform essential functions, including frequent walking, talking, and using hands. Occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds may be necessary.
