Job Summary:
The Director of Parking and Transportation will oversee the development and implementation of a comprehensive parking and transportation program that meets the needs of Dartmouth's students, faculty, staff, and guests. This position will be responsible for managing professional and customer-focused staff, developing collaborative relationships with college departments, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage Parking and Transportation Operations: Develop, implement, and evaluate parking regulations, procedures, and contractor/vendor parking and collection methods.
- Lead a Team: Manage professional and customer-focused staff, including hiring, training, supervising, evaluating, and developing staff to manage all parking and transportation operations, services, facilities, and programs.
- Develop Collaborative Relationships: Develop collaborative relationships with college departments and colleagues to ensure that all financial reporting, contracts with service providers, and parking and transportation enforcement follow standards and guidelines.
- Ensure Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations affecting parking and transportation, especially those related to access and safety.
- Manage Budget: Determine fiscal requirements, prepare departmental budget, submit invoices for payment, and monitor financial and operating results monthly.
- Develop and Communicate Policies: Develop and communicate on Transportation Services policies and regulations and ensure compliance with appropriate policies and procedures.
- Oversee Customer Service: Ensure that complaints, disagreements, or misunderstandings about rates or services are resolved quickly and diplomatically.
- Manage Contracts: Manage all contracts with service providers and provide assurance that all contract terms are in effect and all parties are complying.
- Promote a Positive Work Environment: Promote a work environment that values and reinforces diversity, integrity, excellent customer service, problem-solving, collaboration, and collegiality within the office of Parking and Transportation.
- Represent the College: Serve on regional transportation committees and boards as needed.
Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in public administration, transportation, or related fields.
- Experience: A minimum of five years' of relevant experience, including at least two years' in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Skills: Proven organizational, leadership, and time management skills. Experience in planning and implementing short- and long-range goals, organizing resources, and establishing priorities.
- Computer Literacy: Computer literacy and high level of facility with standard business-related software and ability to evaluate and learn new software applications.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including extensive experience handling customer interactions in a calm and objective manner.
- Driver's License: Must hold a valid driver's license and be qualified under the terms of the Dartmouth College Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Policy.
- Willingness to Serve On-Call: Willingness to serve on-call during emergencies and respond after hours to emergencies.
