Trauma Program Manager

The Trauma Program Manager is a registered nurse responsible for coordinating services and system elements required for optimal care of trauma patients. This leader oversees operations to ensure maintenance as a verified/designated trauma program, as set forth by the American College of Surgeons Trauma Center Verification Program or State designated trauma program.
Core Responsibilities:- Collaborate with the trauma Medical Director to prepare the trauma program for (re)verification by the American College of Surgeons and/or (re)designation by the State of Georgia Department of Public Health: Office of EMS and Trauma.
- Manage the Trauma Service Staff, including Trauma Outreach Coordinator, Trauma Nurse Coordinator, Trauma Registrar/Data Abstractor(s), and Performance Improvement Coordinator.
- Work cooperatively with Hospital Administration and the WMG to ensure a smooth functioning and financially viable service.
- Plan and facilitate Trauma Committee meetings and activities.
- Set goals for improving quality metrics in collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Committee.
- Responsible for creation, development, and monitoring of budget.
- Coordinate the development and deployment of trauma-specific protocols and guidelines and monitor adherence and effectiveness of the protocols.
- Responsible for the creation of policies, procedures, and guidelines for care of the injured patient.
- Promote and contribute to the positive working environment within Trauma Services.
- Complete requisite reports to the State Office of EMS and Trauma and The Georgia Trauma Commission per contractual obligation.
- Serve as liaison to Regional, State, and National trauma organizations to improve access to and delivery of trauma care.
- Serve as liaison to all clinical and ancillary departments within the hospital to ensure world-class trauma care delivery.
- Serve as subject matter expert and liaison with the WellStar Health System regarding trauma care delivery.
- Interface with Quality Department regarding quality initiatives and Joint Commission requirements.
- Attend Trauma Activations to serve as a resource person to enhance trauma team performance.
- Work collaboratively with the Trauma Team to assure coverage for time-sensitive responsibilities/duties.
- Serve as a resource to patients and families as needed to ensure optimal trauma care provision to our patients.
- Attend Multidisciplinary Rounds with Trauma Team.
- Rounds on trauma units to ensure resources are available to provide world-class trauma care.
- Manage Trauma Registrar/Data Abstractor(s).
- Oversee the timely completion, accuracy, and reporting of the Trauma Registry.
- Work on behalf of WellStar Cobb Hospital with state organizations toward the development of a State Trauma Registry.
- Maintain the highest level of trauma registry validity to assure accurate program profiling, TQIP, State, and internal reports using the established data validation process for the Trauma Registry.
- Manage Trauma Nurse Coordinator(s) and Performance Improvement Coordinator(s).
- Coordinate and lead Trauma Committee meetings and prepare monthly statistical reports for committee.
- Evaluate quality assurance filters as defined by the American College of Surgeons, State designated standards, and internal filters, for process and care improvement opportunities.
- Ensure improved pre-hospital care of injured patients through coordination of efforts with local EMS, EMS Coordinator, and state Trauma Centers.
- Monitor TQIP reports for opportunities for improving trauma care within the Trauma Center, Region, and State.
- Work in conjunction with the Trauma Nurse Coordinator to review, monitor, and identify PI opportunities at the system and provider levels. Escalate cases as appropriate for peer review.
- Manage the Trauma Outreach Coordinator(s).
- Support the Trauma Outreach Coordinators' efforts related to professional and community education and injury prevention programs.
- Participate in the Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum Course (TNCC) program sponsored by the hospital/System.
- Participate in the Advanced Trauma Life Support program sponsored by the hospital/System.
- Participate in the Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses program sponsored by the hospital/System.
- Participate in other professional education courses in trauma and critical care that may be conducted or sponsored by the hospital/System.
- Participate in regional trauma education and outreach efforts.
- (Level I and II) Participate in Trauma Program Research projects and work with nursing staff to oversee and develop nursing-based trauma research projects if indicated.
- Bachelor's Degree Graduate with Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an approved school of professional nursing is preferred.
- Master's Degree Master of Science in Nursing with a clinical concentration in trauma, emergency, or relevant field is preferred.
- Reg Nurse (Single State) or RN - Multi-state Compact.
- Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support/ ACLS - Provisional/ ACLS - Instructor is preferred.
- Trauma Nurse Core Course is preferred.
- Adv Trauma Care for Nurses Certification is preferred.
- Trauma Certification, RN is preferred.
- Minimum of three to five years of clinical nursing in emergency, critical care, and trauma care.
- Maintains 48 trauma-related continuing education hours every 3 years (averaged 16 per year) per the ACS standard.
- Minimum of three to five years progressive management/supervisory experience is preferred.
- Previous experience as Trauma Program Manager, performance improvement, or as a member of a Trauma program is preferred.
- Previous experience in verified an ACS verified Trauma Center or state designated trauma program is preferred.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to interact productively with both internal and external personnel at all levels of the organization, patients, families, physicians, and staff, to promote the optimal care of patients and the optimal functioning of the trauma program.
