Job Summary

The Wine Cellar Assistant plays a critical role in maintaining the wine cellar and overseeing the receipt and storage of beer and liquor for RPM Italian - D.C. restaurants.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inventory Management: Order wine and receive wine, beer, and liquor deliveries, accurately verifying purchase orders and product invoices for quality, safety, and accuracy.
  • Logistics and Operations: Safely and effectively use and operate all necessary tools and equipment, and work a variety of hours, days, and shifts, including weekends.
  • Communication and Teamwork: Effectively communicate with colleagues and management to perform and follow job requirements in written and spoken direction, and work calmly and effectively in a busy, stressful environment.
  • Physical Demands: Move and lift up to 10 pounds, frequently move and/or lift up to 25 pounds, and occasionally move and/or lift up to 50 pounds, and stand and walk for an entire shift.
Essential Functions
  • Product Quality and Safety: Maintain product quality and safety standards, reject any product not meeting quality or safety standards, and make note on the invoice.
  • Storage and Organization: Store deliveries following storage and zoning procedures, update and develop new procedures as necessary, and inventory supplies and communicate needs to Management.
  • Cleaning and Maintenance: Organize and clean cabinets, coolers, and other storage areas in and around the cellar, and assist in maintaining general cleanliness of the back of the house.
  • Professional Relationships: Maintain professional relationships with purveyors while upholding the highest ethical standards and complying with all company policies and procedures.
  • Training and Development: Attend internal and external wine seminars and tastings, support the Sommelier with creation and maintenance of wine training materials, and provide training and education to new and existing employees.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in the use and operation of all necessary tools and equipment, including the POS system, and comply with all safety and sanitation guidelines and procedures.
