Position Overview
We provide a performance-based remote work option depending on job duties. Following initial in-person training, this role may offer the flexibility to work from home up to three days a week.
Auto-Owners Insurance, a highly regarded insurance provider, is on the lookout for an enthusiastic underwriting trainee to become part of our organization. This position involves applying insurance coverage, regulations, and guidelines to carry out the underwriting decision-making process in alignment with the Company's underwriting principles. The role encompasses training and development through the completion of the Company's underwriter training program for the designated line of insurance and necessitates the individual to:
- Grasp various insurance coverages and agreements alongside company policies and procedures to make informed underwriting decisions.
- Interpret and respond to documents such as policies, manuals, forms, and endorsements to comprehend their significance and application.
- Gather information, formulate opinions, and articulate decisions clearly using sound reasoning and judgment.
- Evaluate loss history, financial conditions, and physical characteristics of risks.
- Develop a foundational understanding of supporting sections within the underwriting department.
- Communicate effectively with independent agents and other team members through verbal and written communication.
- Engage in and successfully complete the Company’s underwriter training program.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in property/casualty underwriting.
- Capability to organize information, manage multiple tasks, and make independent decisions.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in report writing and correspondence composition.
- Aptitude for resolving complex issues.
- Commitment to ongoing product knowledge enhancement through participation in approved educational initiatives.
