Program Advocate, Single Adult Shelter

South Middlesex Opportu is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Program Advocate to join our team at the Single Adult Shelter. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in providing a safe and supportive environment for individuals served at the shelter.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage with clients and refer them to relevant services as needed.
- Maintain a quiet and safe milieu, ensuring the well-being of all clients.
- Conduct initial assessments as requested by the Manager on Duty.
- Provide excellent customer service, answering client questions and addressing their needs.
- Support and assist Case Managers within the Opportunity Center.
- Ensure clients sign in daily and provide feedback to staff on their experiences.
- Serve as a resource to the CGRC staff, performing client-related tasks and providing guidance.
- Learn new client assistance programs, such as SNAP, and enroll clients as needed.
- Engage with clients, understanding and addressing their needs, whether within or outside the scope of work.
- Attend team meetings, communicate effectively with clients and staff, and maintain confidentiality of client information.
- Ensure compliance with program, department, agency, and funder requirements, as well as SMOC policies and procedures.
Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent work experience.
- Previous customer service experience preferred.
- General understanding of programs offered within SMOC.
- Understanding of addiction and recovery, comfortable working with homeless/low-income populations.
- Basic knowledge of computers, including the internet and MS Office.
- Proven effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Flexibility is a must.
Working Conditions:
This position requires direct or incidental contact with clients served by SMOC in various programs. A successful background check is required.
