ESL Instructor for Adult Learners

New American Association of Massachusetts is seeking an English Language Instructor to teach ESL classes to adult learners residing in a shelter. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching ESL, particularly to low-level or adult learners, and be passionate about adult education.
Key Responsibilities- Teach ESL classes focused on basic employment-related language, including common workplace terminology, simple instructions, and conversational English.
- Deliver practical lessons on small talk, understanding basic job-related vocabulary, and following simple directions.
- Create an engaging and supportive learning environment for students with minimal English proficiency.
- At least 1-2 years of experience teaching ESL, particularly to low-level or adult learners.
- Experience in employment-related ESL topics tailored for very low-level English speakers.
- Strong communication, organizational, and reporting skills, with the ability to adapt to various learning styles and educational backgrounds.
- TESOL/TESL/TEFL certificate
- Experience of teaching ESL to adult learners
- Speak at least one additional language (preferably Spanish, Swahili, Pashto/Farci, Arabic, or Haitian Creole)
The program is specifically designed for low/low beginner-level English speakers, aiming to equip them with the language skills necessary to obtain and retain employment. Instructors will also assess student progress and compile reports for the funder.
Working EnvironmentThe instructor will work in a shelter environment and address the unique challenges faced by residents. Creativity, compassion, and high energy are a must.
