Job DescriptionDRS Industrial, a family-owned company, is seeking a highly skilled Controller to join our team. As a key member of our leadership team, you will play a crucial role in overseeing our financial health. Your responsibilities will include ensuring accurate financial reporting, monitoring cost controls, creating financial reports, and maintaining internal controls. You will lead a small team, including two individuals in HR and AP/AR, and support financial presentations to the leadership team. This role reports directly to the CFO.

Key Focus Areas

  • Provide accurate and timely financial reports, including financial closes.
  • Monitor budgets and cost controls.
  • Maintain internal control systems.
  • Develop strategies for long-term financial health.
  • Support senior management in decision making.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain internal safeguards for revenue receipts, costs, and team and organizational budgets and actual expenditures.
  • Manage cash flow.
  • Evaluate and manage risk.
  • Establish (in coordination with CFO) financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards on biweekly, monthly, and annual basis.
  • Manage and comply with reporting requirements for local, state and federal government.
  • Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflows.
  • Oversee and support accounting team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity.

Required skills and qualifications

  • Seven or more years of professional accounting experience.
  • Proven experience with manufacturing processes and accounting.
  • Experience with inventories and lean processes.
  • Strong understanding of banking processes and financial data analysis.
  • Working knowledge of national and local tax regulations and compliance reporting.
  • Experience in managing payroll, with focus on streamlining accounting processes.
  • Familiarity with ERP software.
  • Ability to prepare, analyze and report timely periodic financial statements.

Preferred skills and qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in business, accounting, or related field.
  • Five or more years of experience as a controller or assistant controller
