Salt Lake City Prosecutor

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Associate City Prosecutor to join our team at Salt Lake City. As a key member of our legal department, you will be responsible for conducting prosecutions in court proceedings, reviewing evidence, and providing expert advice to city officials and employees.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct prosecutions in court proceedings, including reviewing evidence, preparing pleadings and briefs, and presenting cases to judges and juries.
- Investigate complaints and determine whether prosecution is warranted, and negotiate settlements to facilitate case resolution.
- Provide expert advice and consultation to city officials, employees, and the public on matters related to criminal law.
- Prepare and review legal documents, including information, warrants, and subpoenas, and ensure that they are served in a timely manner.
- Represent the city in criminal and traffic courts, and appear before judges and juries to present cases.
- Prepare and review legal briefs and memoranda for presentation to higher courts, including the District Court and the Utah Court of Appeals.
- Graduation from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
- Membership in good standing with the Utah State Bar.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officials, employees, and the public.
- Ability to analyze and present complex legal information effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Capacity to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple cases simultaneously.
- Working knowledge of principles of civil and criminal law, judicial procedures, and rules of evidence.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced office environment, handling light weights, and standing for extended periods.
- Exposure to stress due to human behavior and position responsibilities.
- Required to organize and retain familiarity with large numbers of court cases, of varying complexity and circumstances, within short time periods.
Incumbents may be promoted to Assistant City Prosecutor after one year in the position, subject to meeting all specified qualifications and approval from the City Prosecutor and City Attorney.
