Linux System Administrator

Strategic Data Systems is seeking a qualified professional to manage and oversee server and end-user workstation operations within both unclassified and classified network settings. This role is essential for our Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RDT&E) initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leverage extensive experience in Red Hat Enterprise Linux to troubleshoot and provide in-depth consulting on system operations.
  • Assist in data collection, analysis, and reporting for the Cybersecurity Compliance Assessment (CSCA) Tool on a monthly basis.
  • Support the development of the Dahlgren Information Repository for CyberSecurity (DIRCS) and facilitate automation/data consolidation for enhanced cyber compliance reporting.
  • Automate system installation processes and imaging techniques (e.g., Kickstart/Ansible).
  • Utilize cryptographic skills to establish and manage public key infrastructure (PKI) for digital certificate management.
  • Implement DISA STIG guidelines and operate within Configuration-Managed Environments.
  • Analyze and modify system software to enhance performance and rectify errors.
  • Plan hardware acquisitions, liaise with vendors, and collaborate with various projects within the organization.
  • Work alongside engineers to optimize the use of workstations and servers for computational tasks.
  • Manage application installations, software licenses, and backup/recovery of system configurations and user data.
  • Employ essential tools for file handling, command-line environments, and documentation.
  • Oversee system operations, including boot processes, process identification, and service management.
  • Configure local storage and manage file systems, including permissions and encryption.
  • Deploy and maintain systems, ensuring software installation and updates are performed efficiently.
  • Administer user and group management, utilizing centralized directories for authentication.
  • Generate reports on system utilization and performance metrics.
  • Implement shell scripting to automate routine system maintenance tasks.
  • Configure system logging, including remote logging capabilities.
  • Set up networking services, including HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, SMTP, SSH, and NTP.
Qualifications:

  • Active DOD Secret Security Clearance.
  • CompTIA Security+CE or equivalent IAT level 2 certification.
  • A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in Linux server and workstation administration.
  • Proficiency in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 7.x) is required.
  • Linux+ or Red Hat Certification is preferred.
