Certified Phlebotomy Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist I to join our dynamic team at St. Marys Regional Hospital. As a Phlebotomist I, you will play a critical role in accurately collecting patient specimens for diagnostic testing in a professional medical environment.
Key Responsibilities- Collect patient specimens via venipuncture, fingerstick, and heelstick, adhering to established procedures and protocols.
- Identify patients using two patient identifiers and label specimens and containers accurately.
- Determine the correct priority for STAT, Routine, ASAP, and other specimen collections.
- Collect and receive specimens into the laboratory, utilizing computer protocols for processing, preparation, centrifugation, aliquot, and routing of specimens, including reference lab.
- Ensure timely transport and processing of all patient specimens for testing.
- File patient lab reports, requisition charges for the business office, and send reports to outside hospitals and clinics.
- Post charges and reconcile invoices, investigating complex bills as needed.
- Research and resolve any questionable patient orders, entering patient demographic data accurately.
- Maintain required lab records and logs, collect statistics for reports, and perform other clerical duties as directed by manager.
- Perform complex specimen set-up, enter complex orders and results, pack and ship infectious materials, and communicate special situations related to specimens or testing with staff and management.
- Clean and maintain equipment, centrifuges, and refrigerators, recording daily temperatures of all refrigerators in the phlebotomy areas.
- Order supplies and maintain sufficient inventory to efficiently operate phlebotomy services.
- Assist in the training of new associates and students, acting as a receptionist, greeting patients, and answering phones within the laboratory.
- Perform patient registration, test ordering, and specimen processing as appropriate.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Certification from one of the following organizations required: RPT, AMT PBT, ASCP, AMT, NCCT, NAPT, NHA, NPA, ACA, ASPT, or NHCO.
- Preferred: Six (6) months of laboratory experience.
This role requires interacting with patients, patients' family, patient care providers, and others, requiring verbal communication and understanding of spoken information. The employee must be able to operate complex and delicate lab equipment with precision and accuracy, see and read lab equipment, labels, monitors, and documents, walk while transporting phlebotomy equipment, remain standing for long periods, adjust body to perform phlebotomy work, and maintain a neat and clean work area.
Work EnvironmentThis position is based at St. Marys Regional Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado, and may require working at other SCL sites. The hourly range for this position is $24.88, and regular attendance is required to perform work on site during regularly scheduled business hours or scheduled shifts.
