The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in designated areas, including patient care spaces, in accordance with established protocols and schedules.
Key Responsibilities
1. Execute daily cleaning tasks in assigned areas by adhering to the 8-step cleaning process or other relevant procedures.
2. Perform cleaning duties in both occupied and discharged patient rooms, which includes washing walls, doors, ceilings, and furnishings, as well as refinishing and polishing floors when necessary.
3. Conduct dusting, damp mopping, and vacuuming of floor areas, including carpets, and manage waste collection throughout the facility.
4. Regularly clean waste receptacles and compactor areas, as well as handle soiled linen and distribute clean linen efficiently.
5. Organize and rearrange furniture and equipment in a neat manner post-cleaning.
6. Request cleaning supplies and equipment as required, ensuring the return of unused items to the housekeeping closet, and maintain cleanliness of carts and equipment.
7. Operate various cleaning machinery, both mechanical and electrical, such as buffers, scrubbers, and vacuums.
Reporting and Compliance
1. Promptly report any damaged furniture or equipment needing repair to supervisors on a daily basis.
2. Ensure that all building areas, including medication storage spaces, are cleaned and serviced as assigned, following established protocols.
3. Maintain secure access to designated medication storage areas and notify nursing or clinical supervisors immediately if any medications are found in unsecured locations.
4. Provide training and guidance to new hires and other staff members within the units.
DCH Standards

Qualifications
A high school diploma or GED is preferred. The ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions is essential, along with effective verbal communication skills. Proficiency in reading, writing legibly, speaking, and comprehending English is required.
Work Context & Physical Requirements
This position involves light work, including occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs and frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing between 10 to 20 lbs. The role requires walking, standing, climbing ladders, pushing, and pulling. Manual dexterity is necessary, along with the ability to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, handle, feel, talk, hear, and see. Exposure to bodily fluids, diseases, infections, lab chemicals, and hazardous materials is expected. Personal protective equipment must be worn as necessary. Clear communication skills are essential, and the ability to reason and express ideas to groups is required. Physical presence onsite is crucial, and hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal limits. The role may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
