InsideHigherEd is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Student Employee, Peer Tutor to join our team at the Center for Academic Success in Healthcare. As a Student Employee, Peer Tutor, you will play a vital role in supporting students in their academic journey, providing guidance and mentorship in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide academic support to students in the subject areas of Nursing and Pharmacology through individual and small group tutoring sessions.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of tutoring activities, ensuring seamless communication with instructors and department staff.
- Represent InsideHigherEd and uphold the organization's core values, promoting a positive and inclusive work environment.
- Collaborate with coordinators to select instructional support materials, addressing individual student needs and promoting academic success.
- Participate in staff meetings, in-services, and training sessions to stay updated on best practices and organizational initiatives.
- Assist with receptionist duties, light office work, and other tasks as assigned, ensuring the smooth operation of the CASH Center.
- Support the promotion and coordination of programs and events, contributing to the overall success of the Center.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management, ensuring flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college-level courses and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 preferred.
- Enrolled at JJC in at least 6 credit hours, with a strong academic record and a commitment to academic excellence.
- Ability to work a minimum of 20 hours per week, with flexibility to adapt to changing work schedules and priorities.
- Excellent customer service skills, effective communication, and a willingness to work with minimum supervision.
- Patience, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality in accordance with FERPA guidelines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two or more faculty references, demonstrating a strong academic record and a commitment to academic excellence.
- Previous work experience, particularly in academic support or related fields.
- Ability to work in the CASH Center for at least one full academic year, demonstrating a long-term commitment to academic success.
Working Conditions:
The Student Employee, Peer Tutor will work in a standard office environment, with occasional outdoor activities and travel to various locations on campus. The position requires flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to work in a fast-paced environment.
