Clean Harbors is seeking an Environmental Waste Chemist to manage, categorize, package, and evaluate chemical waste in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as well as our internal policies. This role involves both indoor and outdoor work at various locations, including facilities, laboratories, and client sites. The Environmental Waste Chemist will assist with lab packing at customer facilities, conduct household hazardous waste (HHW) collections, and facilitate lab relocations. This position requires direct interaction with clients on a daily basis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prioritize health and safety by adhering to all safety practices and policies.
  • Generate packing lists, labels, manifests, and notifications for land disposal restrictions.
  • Conduct inspections of staging, accumulation, and storage areas to ensure compliance with housekeeping standards.
  • Monitor storage areas and containers for leaks or spills.
  • Verify that containers meet labeling regulations.
  • Collect, categorize, and package waste chemicals for disposal efficiently and in compliance with regulations.
  • Execute tasks at Clean Harbors customer locations, including major corporations.
  • Oversee the final preparation and approval of all projects prior to shipment in accordance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and company policies.
  • Conduct projects following site-specific federal, state, and local regulations and health and safety plans.
  • Understand customer-specific disposal restrictions and special packaging requirements.
  • Sample and profile new waste streams or any waste requiring analytical testing.
  • Ensure accurate drum counts and that drum conditions are suitable for shipping per company policies.
  • Comply with all local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Safely operate vehicles in accordance with U.S. DOT and other applicable requirements.
  • Adhere to all corporate operating guidelines and procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • CDL Class B license.
  • Ability to obtain hazmat and tanker endorsements within six months of employment.
  • Capability to perform physical tasks as required by the job.
  • Successful completion of a background check, drug test, and physical examination.
  • Compliance with OSHA's Respiratory Protection Standard regarding facial hair.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Chemistry or a related Natural Science field.
  • Experience in Environmental Services, such as remediation or emergency spill response.
