The Global Energy Division at Meta is on the lookout for a seasoned and proactive energy expert to facilitate negotiations, foster internal collaborations, and oversee carbon-neutral energy initiatives, engineered carbon solutions, and nature-centric carbon strategies for our expanding operational footprint.

The Sustainability Energy Strategist will play a pivotal role in advancing and implementing Meta's net zero framework, which focuses on comprehensive decarbonization aligned with Meta's operational goals and overarching strategic vision.

The ideal candidate will possess a demonstrated history of successful commercial negotiations and the development of carbon solutions.


Key Responsibilities:

Sustainability Energy Strategist Duties:
Formulate, negotiate, and finalize competitive agreements for carbon reduction and removal initiatives related to carbon credits.

Design and negotiate commercial structures for Meta's involvement in grid decarbonization efforts, including transmission, utility-scale storage, and other innovative energy technologies as necessary.

Engage with internal teams such as net zero and sustainability, legal, policy, finance, and communications to deploy carbon solutions effectively.

Establish and nurture relationships with essential suppliers and stakeholders.

Assist in the ongoing development and execution of Meta's carbon supply strategy for both domestic and potentially international operations.

Stay updated on technical, market, and regulatory trends in the decarbonized electricity and broader carbon sectors, communicating significant trends, risks, and potential impacts to management.

Lead and support various energy initiatives as required, including technology evaluations and commercial negotiations.

Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as necessary (10% to 20% at times).

Minimum Qualifications:

Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, environmental science, or a related energy discipline.

12+ years of experience in navigating general commercial energy or carbon-related issues.

Proven experience in negotiating definitive agreements related to energy technologies or environmental market products and services.

Experience managing multiple projects and collaborating with internal teams, utility providers, consultants, and external stakeholders.

Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Google Sheets/Docs/Slides.

Preferred Qualifications:

Desirable Qualifications:
Experience in developing, acquiring, conducting due diligence, and negotiating definitive agreements for utility-scale renewable energy solutions, including wind, solar, and storage projects.

Experience collaborating with carbon removal or other environmental attribute suppliers.

Experience representing business interests to leadership teams of potential suppliers, utilities, governments, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders.

Experience structuring around pre-operational risks or projects that are several years from credit delivery.

Compensation:
$188,000/year to $256,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
