About the Role

The MaineHealth Cancer Care Network (MHCCN) is in search of a full-time Hematologist Oncologist to provide inpatient consultative services at the Maine Medical Center (MMC) in Portland, ME. As a vital member of the inpatient services team at MMC, you will be part of a statewide, integrated care delivery network that spans southern, central, and coastal regions of Maine and eastern New Hampshire.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver comprehensive cancer care as part of the dominant cancer care provider in Maine, serving over 6,800 analytic cancer patients annually.
  • Engage in a program accredited by ASCO QOPI, COC, NAPBC, and NAPRC, ensuring high standards of care.
  • Collaborate with a fully integrated team that includes surgical oncology, radiation oncology, palliative care, and support services, utilizing advanced analytics through ASCO CancerLinQ and the EPIC EMR system with BEACON.
  • Participate in a robust research program affiliated with the NCI's Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP), with opportunities to lead clinical trials.
  • Attend 19 dedicated virtual board meetings monthly, covering various cancer types including GI/GU, liver, breast, lung, neuro-oncology, and hematologic malignancies.
  • Hold a faculty position at Tufts University School of Medicine and contribute to the Hematology-Oncology Fellowship Program.
  • Manage hematology and oncology consultations from various services across MMC, ensuring comprehensive patient care.
  • Work a schedule of 40 weeks per year, Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm, with support from advanced practice providers and/or fellows.
  • Engage in a rotation of three weeks on followed by one week off, facilitating a balanced work-life dynamic.
  • Provide navigation support for patients transitioning from inpatient to outpatient care.
  • Supervise and educate fellows, residents, and medical students during their consult rotations.
  • Utilize a state-of-the-art acute hematology unit for inpatient care, staffed by MHCCN hematology faculty.
Qualifications
  • Medical degree from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of a Residency/Fellowship in an accredited program.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Oncology or Hematology and Oncology.
  • Ideal for physicians seeking flexible schedules with minimal outpatient responsibilities and call burden.
