The Town of Needham is in search of qualified candidates to fill several part-time Traffic Safety Supervisor positions. Under the supervision of the Police Department's Community Service Officer, the Traffic Safety Supervisor will manage and oversee both vehicular and pedestrian traffic at designated locations to ensure the safety of school children and maintain a smooth flow of traffic. These part-time responsibilities are carried out during the academic year.

The Traffic Safety Supervisors will receive training from the Community Service Officer regarding Massachusetts Traffic Laws pertinent to traffic management, pedestrian safety, school zones, and other relevant regulations.

This role typically requires five (5) to ten (10) hours of work per week, with a general schedule of 7:00-8:30 am and 2:00-3:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure that children and the public utilize designated crossing areas and that no individual is in the roadway while traffic is active.
  • Remain vigilant for current or potential traffic dangers in the vicinity of the assigned crossing. If necessary, provide a written report to the Safety Officer detailing any hazards and suggesting corrective measures.
  • May be tasked with monitoring specific areas and issuing citations for observed parking infractions.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience, ideally in a public-facing role.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and dependable personal transportation.
  • Exemplary punctuality, reliability, and dependability.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Capability to exercise sound judgment and respond swiftly to emergencies.
