Compensation: $44 per hour on W-2

Role Overview: The Cost Engineer will provide essential technical and financial analysis to facilitate the development and regulatory approval of electric and gas rate structures, including tariff provisions, terms, and conditions. The role involves economic modeling and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Articulate company proposals and the supporting analysis to internal stakeholders while offering tariff interpretations to regulatory personnel, customers, and consultants; prepare documentation for miscellaneous tariff modifications.
  • Guide IT and Customer Operations teams regarding new rate structures and their implementation in customer billing systems.
  • Develop and propose methodologies, spreadsheets, and models for technical and cost analysis to support the design of electric and gas rates, including special tariff provisions.
  • Conduct economic modeling and analysis to inform decision-making.
  • Draft and write sections of rate-related testimonies and identify strategic development areas.
  • Prepare responses to inquiries from interveners related to rate filings or associated issues.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline such as accounting, engineering, economics, or mathematics.
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience in the field.
  • Fundamental understanding of the utility sector, economic and financial analysis, and accounting principles.
  • Strong skills in quantitative analysis and spreadsheet modeling.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Effective planning and organizational skills.

For Principal Staff Rates Analyst Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline such as accounting, engineering, economics, or mathematics.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience.
  • Direct experience in utility cost of service analysis and/or rate design.
  • In-depth understanding of the utility sector, including gas and electric tariffs and utility accounting.
  • Strong skills in quantitative analysis and spreadsheet modeling.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Effective planning and organizational skills.

Desired Education: Bachelor's degree in mathematics or economics.
