Job Summary

Volunteers of America Los Angeles is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Co-Teacher in our Head Start and Early Head Start programs. As a Co-Teacher, you will play a vital role in providing a nurturing and stimulating environment for young children to develop socially, emotionally, intellectually, and physically.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement the program curriculum for children enrolled in morning and afternoon classes, planning individual and group activities to stimulate learning and promote parent involvement.
  • Work cooperatively with the Co-Teacher and Family Advocate to provide information and resources to enrolled families.
  • Integrate various Head Start services into the learning, such as parent involvement, social services, nutrition, health, and mental health services.
  • Conduct daily classroom planning, maintain children's records, and submit accurate monthly paperwork on a timely basis.
  • Observe, screen, and assess children's development levels, developing goals that relate to the child's individual needs.
  • Provide a planned program of activities that supports and enhances the role of parents as the prime educators of their children.
  • Ensure a physical environment consistent with state and local licensing requirements and the health and safety needs of the children.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education/Child Development or a related field with 24 units in Early Childhood Education/Child Development.
  • Experience working with children.
  • Ability to interact with children in a busy environment, including lifting up to 50 lbs, frequently kneeling and squatting, and moving quickly.
  • Reliable transportation required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education/Child Development with 24 ECE/CD units.
  • Associate Teacher Child Development Permit or higher.
  • One year of teaching experience.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish (written and verbal).
