Position Overview
This recruitment is ongoing. Applications will be evaluated on a regular basis.

The Role
This announcement pertains to two (2) openings within the Department of Public Works. The City of Santa Clara's Department of Public Works is in search of a proactive and innovative engineer dedicated to fulfilling the Department's mission of delivering top-tier public works services to the community and stakeholders in a responsible and efficient manner.

The Department focuses on various areas, including Engineering Services and Operations and Maintenance.

Engineering Services comprises five divisions:
Administration, Traffic, Design, Land and Property Development, and Field Services.

Operations and Maintenance encompass public roadways, parkways, boulevards, municipal trees, street cleaning, environmental initiatives, storm drainage systems, fleet management, waste management, and municipal facilities.

The Traffic Engineering Division offers technical support for the design and execution of both municipal and private development projects, conducts traffic impact assessments for private developments and transportation initiatives, and manages bicycle and pedestrian improvement planning.

Additionally, the division addresses inquiries from residents and businesses regarding street parking, traffic calming measures, intersection controls, and non-motorized travel on public thoroughfares.

These investigations may involve community engagement, field assessments, data collection, and analysis in accordance with established city policies to formulate engineering recommendations for potential enhancements.

The division also emphasizes multi-modal planning and execution, particularly concerning the objectives and projects outlined in the City's Bicycle Plan, Pedestrian Master Plan, and Complete Streets policy.

Collaboration with other agencies, such as the Valley Transportation Authority and neighboring municipalities, is essential for project coordination and grant opportunities.

Successful candidates will possess experience in customer service, traffic design and construction, transportation planning, and project management.

Under direct supervision, the Associate Engineer (Civil) will engage in both field and office tasks, evaluate and approve designs for traffic control and public improvements related to private developments, manage grants, and provide technical support for the implementation of transportation plans and programs.
