Cardiac Surgery Physician Assistant

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Cardiac Surgery Physician Assistant to join our team at Tufts Medicine. As a key member of our cardiac surgery team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and contributing to the success of our organization.
Responsibilities- Obtain detailed medical histories and perform comprehensive physical examinations of cardiac surgical patients.
- Perform preoperative preparation and postoperative care of patients, reinforcing information presented by the attending physician as necessary.
- Coordinate care of various disciplines and specialties, ordering necessary diagnostic tests, consultations, and procedures as indicated or requested by the attending physician.
- Manage critically ill surgical patients under the direction and supervision of a cardiac surgeon and/or critical care intensivist.
- Perform bedside diagnostic and therapeutic invasive procedures as indicated or directed by the attending physician.
- Prescribe medications for patients in accordance with service policies and/or attending physician's instructions.
- Document clinical care accurately and timely, including daily notes, consultation notes, transfer/discharge/death summaries, and others as necessary.
- Participate in the education of students and residents assigned to the surgical services.
- Contribute to Process/Quality improvement initiatives as part of the Cardiac Surgery Division and Service Line.
- Bachelor's degree.
- Graduate of an approved Physician Assistant Program.
- Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (required to be obtained within one year of hire).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Eligible for state and federal controlled substances registration.
- Ability to interact positively with all members of the multidisciplinary care team, patients, and families.
- Emotional intelligence to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
- One or more years of Physician Assistant experience, ideally within cardiac surgery and/or the intensive care setting.
