We are seeking a skilled and reliable Custodian to join our team. As a Custodian, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our school facilities.
Estimated Salary:
$52,852 - $72,815 per year
About the Role:
This is a full-time Custodian position responsible for performing routine cleaning and maintenance tasks in assigned areas of a school building. The ideal candidate will have general knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment, as well as excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Responsibilities:
- Cleaning and Sanitation: Sweep, mop, and vacuum all classrooms, bathrooms, offices, hallways, and specialty rooms; keep building and premises neat and clean at all times;
- Disinfection and Sanitizing: Use appropriate equipment and supplies to wipe and sanitize toilets, sinks, mirrors, countertops, windows, and water fountains;
- Waste Management: Empty trash and restock paper products at all points of use;
- Floor Maintenance: Refinish or restore resilient floor tile as required by mechanical stripping, sealing, finishing, buffing/burnishing, scrubbing, and/or recoating;
- Carpet Care: Vacuum and care for building carpeting;
- Grounds Maintenance: Maintain building perimeter by sweeping walkways, removing weeds, trimming shrubbery, and shoveling snow;
- Litter Removal: Pick up litter and debris on outside school grounds;
- Equipment Maintenance: Replace light bulbs, tubes, ceiling tile, switch and outlet plates, and pencil sharpeners as needed;
- Furniture Moving: Move furniture, fold and unfold chairs safely as needed;
- Inventory Management: Store and care for all cleaning equipment and cleaning materials;
- Customer Service: Respond to requests from school administrators and staff to include minor maintenance, moving furniture, unloading and storing deliveries, setting up and taking down for functions and student activities;
- Safety and Emergency Procedures: Demonstrate professionalism at all times; drive a county vehicle as required, following standard operating procedures associated with this task; follow Blood-Borne Pathogen procedures, respond to accidents or potential safety hazards that may require contact with chemical spills, blood, or other bodily fluids;
- Equipment Operation: Use various pieces of power equipment, including riding scrubbers, rotary machines, pressure washers, drills, carpet extractors, vacuums, and specialty equipment;
- Float Assignment and School Reporting: Provide custodial services at any of our schools as needed; float custodians will be assigned schools to report to daily;
- Essential Personnel and Emergency Response: This position is designated as Essential Personnel, requiring employees to report to their job site during emergency situations, such as snow, inclement weather, or other emergency situations;
- Additional Duties and Responsibilities: Perform other related duties as assigned by management to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit;
Requirements:
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and one year of work experience in a customer service, custodial, or janitorial setting. Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia is also required.
