Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Mechanic Specialist-Controls Expert to join our team at Weill Cornell Medical College. As a key member of our facilities management team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our building automation systems, infrastructure systems, and related equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • System Monitoring and Maintenance: Conduct daily checks, reports, and inspections of HVAC, lighting, and energy management controls systems and associated software. Investigate and address alarms through the controls interface and in the field.
  • System Troubleshooting and Repair: Troubleshoot, repair, and install all portions of the complex Building Automation Controls Systems that support the campus-wide infrastructure systems.
  • System Upgrades and Enhancements: Communicate and report on identified issues with the controls systems. Present and implement recommendations for repairs, upgrades, and enhancements on the controls systems.
  • Training and Technical Support: Provide training and technical support to in-house mechanics, electricians, and the energy team on the building HVAC, lighting, and energy automation management controls.
  • Staying Current with Industry Trends: Stay current through self-study, training, and research on the active campus controls systems as well as new technology and industry trends and standards.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or GED. Associates or Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 4 to 7 years of relevant experience working with building automation systems and/or complex infrastructure systems, of which a minimum of 3 years hands-on experience with pneumatic and DDC building management controls systems.
  • Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated ability to understand complex interrelationships between multiple utility systems. Demonstrated ability to work from drawings, schematics, blueprints, and job layouts. Strong work ethic and good customer service skills. Ability to guide the activities of co-workers on assigned tasks. Ability to understand and carry out complex technical written and verbal instructions.
Working Conditions

The ideal candidate will be able to grasp, lift, and/or carry or otherwise move objects weighing a minimum of 50 pounds and push/pull objects up to 100 pounds. Utilize hand tools, power tools, large wrenches, operate small to large valves, visually and audibly observe operating equipment, walk, stand, climb ladders/scaffolds, bend, reach, lift, and carry.
