Assistant Professor of User Experience

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Assistant Professor of User Experience to join our team at the Milwaukee School of Engineering. As a key member of our Humanities, Social Science, and Communication Department, you will play a vital role in shaping the future of UX education and contributing to the growth of our undergraduate UX program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver engaging undergraduate UX courses, focusing on hands-on learning and real-world applications.
  • Refine and contribute to the maturing undergraduate UX curriculum, ensuring it remains relevant and effective in preparing students for the industry.
  • Participate in student recruitment and advising activities, providing guidance and support to students as they navigate their academic journey.
  • Establish and maintain connections with industry partners, fostering collaborations and opportunities for students to gain practical experience.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in User Experience, Human-Centered Design, Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction, Multimedia/Interactive Design, Information Science, Computer Science, Cognitive Psychology, or related fields.
  • Ph.D. preferred.
  • Experience in human-centered design, UX design, interface/interaction design, digital media, psychology of design, conversation design, search engine optimization, UX Research, or UX Strategy.
  • Proven record of accomplishment in academic, studio, industry, corporate, or freelance UX work.
  • Strong commitment to and interest in undergraduate teaching and mentorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in designing 2D/3D content and prototypes using tools like Unity, Adobe CC, Figma, etc.
  • Knowledge of digital landscapes and generative AI tools, such as Adobe Firefly, ChatGPT, Midjourney, etc.
  • Familiarity with front-end development technologies and AI-driven design.
  • Experience in online or hybrid teaching environments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build successful relationships with students and faculty from other departments.
