Electrical and Instrumentation Technician III

As an Electrical and Instrumentation Technician III at HEP Services LLC, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and troubleshooting complex equipment and systems. Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Maintaining and repairing electrical and instrumentation systems, including lighting, motors, and control systems.
- Troubleshooting and repairing plant control systems, generators, heaters, and other complex equipment.
- Modifying and troubleshooting Distributive Control Systems (DCS) and/or Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) to optimize control technology and minimize installation and operating costs.
- Installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining end devices, alarms, shutdown systems, process controls, substation and branch feeders, variable frequency drives, air/fuel controllers, panel boards, and other equipment.
- Performing preventative and general maintenance on electronic and pneumatic equipment and parts associated with this equipment.
- Providing training and technical support as required.
- Responsible for general upkeep of facilities and equipment, including company vehicles and shops.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Proficient in multiple competencies relevant to the job.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems with equipment.
- Familiarity with AC voltage (120-480) three phase and single phase plus 24 VDC.
- Knowledge of facility processes, electrical layout, safety systems, and area classifications.
- Able to read and apply information from drawings and instruction books.
- Knowledge of electrical and instrumentation equipment associated with the sites.
- Working knowledge of medium and low voltage systems.
- Able to perform instrumentation and electrical responsibilities associated with gas processing plants and liquid terminal operations.
- Able to use calibration, measuring, and testing equipment.
- Able to safely operate all hand tools, power tools, and electronic diagnostic equipment.
- Must meet basic training and reporting requirements (Concur, UKG, CBTs, etc.).
- Ability to complete work permits, hot work permits, lockout tagout (LOTO), and job safety analysis.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- PC skills including proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access.
- Must be versed in Allen Bradley display and control software and PLC equipment.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- An associate's degree or technical certification in electrical or instrumentation technology is preferred.
- 5+ years of related experience in design, installation, operation, and maintenance of electronic, pneumatics, and communications systems.
Certifications:
- None required.
Travel:
Travel required locally or long-distance up to 20% of the time for work-related meetings and functions.
Equipment:
Computer, computer software programs and peripherals, resource materials and equipment, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to the position.
Mental and Physical Demands:
Regularly required to walk, stand, crawl, climb stairs, and bend; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms over shoulder height; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Frequent pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, bending, balance, depth perception, repetitive arm/hand movements, eye-hand-foot coordination, manual dexterity (eye/hand coordination), finger dexterity, vision acuity (far/near), and hearing acuity. May be required to climb ladders and/or stairs more than 50 ft. and work in confined spaces. Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
May be required to spend 50% or greater of time in an outdoor setting. Will be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Maintain emotional control under stress, work with interruptions and deadlines.
May work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Subject to 24-hour call out 7 days per week with possible extended workdays.
Environmental Factors:
May be exposed to biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.). Will work in or around industrial and construction settings, which may include working with chemicals, hazardous products, processes, and materials. Exposure to loud machinery, moving mechanical parts, and adverse weather conditions. Gaseous risk exposure and occasional dangerous driving conditions. Will work with petroleum products under high pressure and in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold.
