Job Title: Academic Coach, Learning Support Systems, TRiO SSS

Job Summary:

The Academic Coach, Learning Support Systems, TRiO SSS will work cooperatively with TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) staff to positively impact the academic experience of new and existing students. The coach will support project goals by providing one-on-one and group coaching to SSS program participants, developing effective reading and learning strategies to become self-regulated learners, connecting students to campus resources, and other duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Foster the development of independent, intentional learners;
  • Provide one-on-one coaching related to academic success;
  • Help students understand and use effective reading and learning strategies;
  • Provide assistance to students needing intensive study skills and reading help in a myriad of subjects;
  • Help students identify and overcome obstacles that may be impeding academic success;
  • Help students focus on individual goals and identify steps to reaching those goals;
  • Work with students to develop strong time management and organization;
  • Develop with students individualized academic plans;
  • Motivate students to take ownership of their own academic success;
  • Refer students to other services on campus such as academic advising, personal counseling, career counseling, subject-specific tutoring, Single Stop, etc.
  • Develop and nurture rapport with students, peers, and faculty;
  • Attend training activities to comply with certification requirements before and/or during semesters;
  • Collaborate with faculty on providing literacy workshops and in setting Academic Coaching expectations;
  • Collaborate with the Director of Learning Support Systems on providing workshops to fill learning gaps of both tutors and students with discipline-specific content.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, psychology, or related field from an accredited college or university;
  • Experience working with diverse college populations;
  • Technology savvy;
  • Master's degree in Education or a related discipline and/or currently working towards degree completion;
  • Two years of developmental reading teaching experience;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and/or experience with Student Support Services and/or TRIO programs;
  • Evidence of effective communication, interpersonal, public speaking, and writing skills;
  • Commitment to the mission of the institution, as well as continual professional growth.

Pay Rate: Pay rate is determined based on level of educational degree. Bachelor's degree is $17/hr and up to $19/hr for a master's degree.

Job Type: Part-time

Hours: 15-20 Hours per Week
