Job Title: Academic Coach, Learning Support Systems, TRiO SSS

Job Summary:

This position will work collaboratively with TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) staff to positively impact the academic experience of new and existing students. The academic coach will provide one-on-one and group coaching to SSS program participants, develop effective reading and learning strategies, connect students to campus resources, and perform other duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Foster the development of independent, intentional learners;
  • Provide one-on-one coaching related to academic success;
  • Help students understand and use effective reading and learning strategies;
  • Provide assistance to students needing intensive study skills and reading help in a myriad of subjects;
  • Help students identify and overcome obstacles that may be impeding academic success;
  • Help students focus on individual goals and identify steps to reaching those goals;
  • Work with students to develop strong time management and organization;
  • Develop with students individualized academic plans;
  • Motivate students to take ownership of their own academic success;
  • Refer students to other services on campus such as academic advising, personal counseling, career counseling, subject-specific tutoring, Single Stop, etc.
  • Develop and nurture rapport with students, peers, and faculty;
  • Attend training activities to comply with certification requirements before and/or during semesters;
  • Collaborate with faculty on providing literacy workshops and in setting Academic Coaching expectations;
  • Collaborate with the Director of Learning Support Systems on providing workshops to fill learning gaps of both tutors and students with discipline-specific content.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, psychology, or related field from an accredited college or university;
  • Experience working with diverse college populations;
  • Technology savvy;
  • Commitment to the mission of Monroe Community College and continual professional growth.
