ROLE OVERVIEW

The Senior Manufacturing and Testing Engineer for Components will operate from Rocket Lab's headquarters, focusing on transforming fluid component designs into practical applications while ensuring compliance with the rigorous standards set for our Electron and Neutron programs. This role involves collaboration with the Director of Manufacturing Engineering and Production, providing essential deliverables for internal stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and implement state-of-the-art testing systems that integrate mechanical, fluid, and electrical components to assess product performance and reliability.
  • Manage the introduction and execution of new products and modifications.
  • Lead the assembly, checkout, and developmental testing of components.
  • Mentor and train team members to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Direct problem-solving efforts and investigations into root causes and corrective actions when necessary.
  • Rapidly address and resolve manufacturing discrepancies and non-conformances.
  • Work closely with the quality assurance team to initiate and promote quality improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct structured analyses of in-process failures to identify root causes.
  • Plan and execute upgrades to capital equipment, machinery, and facility layouts to meet production needs, including the preparation of business cases.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in troubleshooting fluid components such as valves, actuators, and regulators during assembly and testing phases.
  • Proven experience in developing and constructing safe testing environments for high-pressure, pneumatic, hydrostatic, and cryogenic applications.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation, control systems, and data acquisition technologies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 4+ years of experience in aerospace component design, manufacturing, and testing.
  • Demonstrated success in leading teams through complex technical projects.
  • Experience in planning, constructing, and operating component test facilities for various testing phases.
  • Strong background in applying fluid and structural mechanics principles to resolve component challenges in dynamic settings.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as LabVIEW, Python, C, C++, and MATLAB.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Vision capabilities necessary for this role include close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • Regularly required to sit, utilize hands and fingers, operate computer systems, and communicate effectively.
  • Must be able to commute to various facilities.
  • Occasional exposure to dust, fumes, and moderate noise levels.
