Job Overview

The Bryan County Board of Commissioners is currently seeking applications for a Full-Time Mechanic within our Maintenance Shop Department.

This role involves executing skilled and semi-skilled repairs and maintenance on a variety of vehicles, including automobiles, light and heavy-duty trucks, as well as other gasoline and diesel-powered equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct skilled maintenance tasks such as the repair, adjustment, and upkeep of motor vehicles and construction machinery powered by gasoline and diesel.
  2. Perform oil changes, filter replacements, and transmission fluid changes.
  3. Carry out general overhauls on internal combustion engines and their components.
  4. Execute tune-ups for gasoline and diesel engines, adjusting timing mechanisms, carburetors, and fuel and ignition systems; replace spark plugs and distributor caps as necessary.
  5. Adjust and realign braking systems; maintain hydraulic and electrical systems; assist in recharging and repairing air conditioning units.
  6. Repair power mowers, air compressors, pumps, and other small machinery.
  7. Install and repair vehicle scanners and radios; perform welding tasks as required; repair or replace tires.
  8. Manage parts and supply pickups; ensure cleanliness and organization of the shop; maintain wash racks and perform routine maintenance on equipment.
  9. Assist with debris collection along roadways and perform other related tasks as assigned.

Work is conducted under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Shop Superintendent or designated supervisor. Performance is assessed through observation and evaluation of completed repairs.

Essential Qualifications:

A high school diploma or GED is required; vocational training in automotive and engine repair is preferred. Candidates should have at least one year of experience as an automotive or engine mechanic, or in a related field, or possess an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. A valid Driver's License is mandatory.
