Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Greenhouse Technician to join our team at Actalent. As a Greenhouse Technician, you will be responsible for performing day-to-day greenhouse and growth chamber activities, including planting, pollinating, tissue sampling, pest/disease scouting, harvesting, threshing, discarding, chamber sanitation, general plant care, data collection, data entry, facility cleanliness, and maintaining safety standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and prepare tissue samples from soybean plants for DNA analysis
  • Water, pot, and care for all plants in the growth chamber
  • Replant samples after data review
  • Assist in operating the soybean threshing machine
  • Plate samples to be tested by the Molecular Marker group
  • Clean the facility and maintain a clean and organized workspace
  • Perform plant maintenance tasks, including trimming, training, and node cleaning
  • Cross-pollinate plants and discard any that are not suitable for growth
  • Work with soybean, wheat, pollen, and dust
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 1-2 years of experience in greenhouse or plant care operations
  • Strong knowledge of horticulture and plant care principles
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods of time
Work Environment

This is a fully on-site position in a large, climate-controlled facility with 32 growth chambers. The conditions are managed to ensure optimal growth, avoiding exposure to external elements. The growth chambers maintain a temperature of 80-85 degrees and sunny conditions, so comfort working in warm environments is necessary.
