Streetlight Maintenance Technician Job Description

This is an entry-level position that requires no prior experience. We offer paid on-the-job training to ensure our technicians have the skills and knowledge needed to excel in their roles.

The primary responsibilities of this position include diagnosing and repairing streetlights. On a daily basis, technicians will be expected to manage their routes, drive to various locations using a bucket truck, and troubleshoot each streetlight outage ticket assigned to them.

As a Streetlight Maintenance Technician, you will have the opportunity to work with a variety of equipment and tools, including power tools and hand tools. You will also be responsible for maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to all regional safety guidelines.

Key qualifications for this position include being at least 18 years old, having reliable transportation, and being able to safely enter and exit the aerial device and rear-end of the bucket truck. A high school diploma or GED equivalent is preferred.

Additionally, employees may be required to complete a pre-employment drug screen, background check, and/or MVR check upon offer.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Performs work from a bucket truck to install and maintain streetlights and related equipment
  • Clears work area and maintains safe job site conditions
  • Will have contact with public and private property owners to communicate the work to be performed
  • Participates in company training of all regional safety guidelines and is required to perform all work by the regional safety policies
  • Operates various tools for the work (power tools and hand tools)
  • Works around hazardous equipment and near energized parts or equipment
  • Works around excessive noise from machines and other equipment with proper hearing protection
  • Uses meters and other testing devices on secondary voltages up to 600 Volts
  • All other duties as required or requested by Supervisors

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Able to safely enter and exit the aerial device and rear-end of the bucket truck
  • Able to work with hands above head for extended periods
  • Able to work at height efficiently and effectively
  • Meet and maintain weight restrictions for bucket trucks as identified by the truck manufacturer
  • Must have reliable transportation to/from work

Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred

Pre-Screen:

  • Upon offer, employees may be required to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, background, and/or MVR check

License & Certifications:

  • Driver License Required
  • Able to pass a DOT physical to obtain a DOT medical card

Travel Requirements:

  • May be able to travel outside our area to perform emergency storm work

Safety:

Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must have sufficient eyesight to judge distance/coordination of equipment and tools, be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods, be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, be able to wear personal protective equipment as necessary, be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day, have the endurance necessary to traverse various terrain, be capable of performing job duties throughout a standard 8- or 10-hour day, be able to communicate with others, read, write, and comprehend written/verbal job instructions and information, and communicate and handle conflict professionally.

Due to traffic exposure, the employee may be required to have traffic flagging training.
