Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Prepared Foods Order Writer to join our team at Whole Foods Market - Williamsburg. As a key member of our prepared foods department, you will be responsible for purchasing and replenishing food products, monitoring inventory control, and participating in regional programs for purchasing and promotions.

Responsibilities
  • Purchase and replenish food products through proper buying procedures, ensuring timely and accurate delivery.
  • Monitor and act upon open PO reports for both purchases and credits, maintaining accurate records and resolving issues promptly.
  • Control spoilage and shrink, achieve turn goals, and participate in inventory management to optimize product availability and minimize waste.
  • Complete spoilage, sampling, temperature, and sweep worksheets as required, maintaining accurate records and adhering to quality standards.
  • Assist with counter service and cooking as scheduled or as necessary, providing excellent customer service and maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
  • Communicate with the kitchen manager/chef and team leader on ordering needs and issues, ensuring seamless collaboration and effective inventory management.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with vendors, negotiating prices and ensuring timely delivery of products.
  • Work with the team leader or assistant team leader(s) to cost recipes, ensuring accurate pricing and profitability.
  • Oversee customer special order procedure, ensuring timely and accurate fulfillment of customer requests.
  • Support leadership in conducting inventories, maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with quality standards.
  • Maintain financial profitability by meeting and exceeding purchasing and sales targets, ensuring optimal product availability and minimizing waste.
  • Arrive to work station on time, appropriately groomed, dressed, and ready to work, working all scheduled shifts and attending required trainings and meetings.
  • Provide excellent customer service, addressing customer needs in a timely and effective manner, and modeling suggestive selling techniques.
  • Maximize sales potential through effective and proper procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising product, ensuring optimal product availability and minimizing waste.
  • Follow and comply with established procedures, including weights and measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices, maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
  • Maintain, or ensure maintenance of, a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment, maintaining equipment in accordance with WFM cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Perform opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned, ensuring accuracy of signs and pricing.
  • Immediately report safety hazards and violations, ensuring a safe working environment for all team members.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Extensive product knowledge, including production, distribution, seasonal availability, advances, and trends.
  • Ability to create and negotiate price bids, ensuring optimal product availability and minimizing waste.
  • Familiarity and/or willingness to learn about products, nutritional information, and other areas of study, ensuring accurate and effective communication with customers and team members.
  • Working knowledge and application of all prepared foods merchandising expectations, ensuring optimal product availability and minimizing waste.
  • Complete understanding of WFM margin program and profitability, ensuring accurate and effective pricing and inventory management.
  • Ability to educate team on product knowledge and convey enthusiasm, ensuring accurate and effective communication with customers and team members.
  • Strong basic math skills, ensuring accurate and effective inventory management and pricing.
  • Knowledge and ability to use computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and ordering systems, ensuring efficient and effective communication and inventory management.
  • Strong to excellent communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team, ensuring accurate and effective communication with customers and team members.
  • Ability to deliver information in a clear and respectful manner to fellow team members, customers, and vendors, ensuring accurate and effective communication.
  • Ability to meet customer service expectations and standards in all interactions with customers, vendors, and team members, ensuring excellent customer service and a positive working environment.
  • Ability to follow directions and procedures, effective time management and organization skills, ensuring accurate and effective inventory management and pricing.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds, ensuring safe and effective lifting and handling of products.
  • In an 8-hour workday: standing/walking 6-8 hours, ensuring safe and effective movement and handling of products.
  • Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling, ensuring safe and effective handling of products.
  • Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching, ensuring safe and effective movement and handling of products.
  • Exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals, ensuring a safe and healthy working environment.
  • Exposure to temperatures: 90 degrees Fahrenheit, ensuring a safe and healthy working environment.
  • Ability to work in wet and dry conditions, ensuring safe and effective movement and handling of products.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed, ensuring a positive and productive working environment.
  • Ability to use tools and equipment, including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery, ensuring safe and effective use and maintenance of equipment.
  • May require use of ladders, ensuring safe and effective use and maintenance of equipment.
