Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Prepared Foods Order Writer to join our team at Whole Foods Market - Williamsburg. As a key member of our prepared foods department, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and accurate ordering of prepared foods products, maintaining inventory control, and merchandising products to meet customer demands.

Key Responsibilities
  • Purchase and replenish prepared foods products through proper buying procedures, ensuring timely and accurate delivery.
  • Monitor and act upon open PO reports for both purchases and credits, maintaining accurate records and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Control spoilage and shrink, achieve turn goals, and participate in inventory management to optimize product availability and minimize waste.
  • Complete spoilage, sampling, temperature, and sweep worksheets as required, maintaining accurate records and adhering to quality control standards.
  • Assist with counter service and cooking as scheduled or as necessary, providing excellent customer service and maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
  • Communicate effectively with the kitchen manager/chef and team leader on ordering needs and issues, ensuring seamless product flow and customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with vendors, negotiating prices and ensuring timely delivery of products.
  • Work with the team leader or assistant team leader(s) to cost recipes, ensuring accurate pricing and profitability.
  • Oversee customer special order procedure, ensuring timely and accurate fulfillment of customer requests.
  • Support leadership in conducting inventories, maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with company standards.
  • Maintain financial profitability by meeting and exceeding purchasing and sales targets, ensuring optimal product availability and minimizing waste.
  • Arrive to work station on time, appropriately groomed, dressed, and ready to work, working all scheduled shifts and attending required trainings and meetings.
  • Provide excellent customer service, addressing customer needs in a timely and effective manner, and modeling suggestive selling techniques.
  • Maximize sales potential through effective and proper procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising product, ensuring optimal product availability and customer satisfaction.
  • Follow and comply with established procedures, including weights and measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices, maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
  • Maintain, or ensure maintenance of, a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment, maintaining equipment in accordance with company cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Perform opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned, ensuring accuracy of signs and pricing.
  • Immediately report safety hazards and violations, ensuring a safe working environment for all team members.
Requirements
  • Extensive product knowledge, including production, distribution, seasonal availability, advances, and trends.
  • Ability to create and negotiate price bids, ensuring optimal product pricing and profitability.
  • Familiarity and/or willingness to learn about products, nutritional information, and other areas of study, ensuring accurate product knowledge and customer satisfaction.
  • Working knowledge and application of all prepared foods merchandising expectations, ensuring optimal product availability and customer satisfaction.
  • Complete understanding of company margin program and profitability, ensuring optimal product pricing and profitability.
  • Ability to educate team on product knowledge and convey enthusiasm, ensuring accurate product knowledge and customer satisfaction.
  • Strong basic math skills, ensuring accurate calculations and product pricing.
  • Knowledge and ability to use computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and ordering systems, ensuring efficient and accurate ordering and inventory management.
  • Strong to excellent communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team, ensuring seamless communication and customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to deliver information in a clear and respectful manner to fellow team members, customers, and vendors, ensuring accurate communication and customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to meet customer service expectations and standards in all interactions with customers, vendors, and team members, ensuring excellent customer service and satisfaction.
  • Ability to follow directions and procedures, effective time management and organization skills, ensuring efficient and accurate ordering and inventory management.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds, ensuring safe and efficient product handling.

  • Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling, ensuring safe and efficient product handling.
  • Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching, ensuring safe and efficient product handling.
  • Exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals, ensuring a safe and healthy working environment.
  • Exposure to temperatures: 90 degrees Fahrenheit, ensuring a safe and healthy working environment.
  • Ability to work in wet and dry conditions, ensuring safe and efficient product handling.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed, ensuring efficient and accurate ordering and inventory management.
  • Ability to use tools and equipment, including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery, ensuring safe and efficient product handling.
