We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Manager-Data Science to join our Decision Science group at American Express. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for applying advanced analytics and machine learning techniques to develop and maintain underwriting/line models for US Consumer risk management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement models for emerging opportunities using machine learning techniques.
  • Communicate model algorithms and results to senior leaders and business partners.
  • Research and develop new machine learning techniques and their applications in risk management.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in a quantitative field related to machine learning, such as mathematics, statistics, machine learning, pattern recognition, or operation research.
  • Hands-on experience in machine learning algorithm development or application.
  • Experience in large data processing and handling, with a deep understanding of data science.
  • Fluency with data manipulation tools like Python, PySpark, SQL, and Big-Query, with experience in data-driven decision making.
  • Strong communication skills, able to explain complex algorithms and results to business partners in simple terms.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams to solve complex business problems.
  • Ability to work independently yet be a team player.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with big data platforms and their applications, such as Hadoop, Pig, and Hive.
  • Familiarity with the credit card industry is a plus.
