Job Summary

The Library Specialist III at Texas A&M International University plays a vital role in providing exceptional library and customer service functions. This position requires a high level of expertise in research resources, databases, and online catalogs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Customer Service
    • Provide intermediate customer service to library patrons, including virtual reference and chat venues.
    • Respond to complex and difficult resource questions.
  • Research and Instruction
    • Support advanced research questions in various specialist areas of study.
    • Instruct library patrons on accessing online catalogs, research guides, and electronic reference databases.
  • Collection Management
    • Process routine and complex requests for library materials and information.
    • Create and edit online forms, documents, and other information for use on unit or library web pages.
  • Operational Support
    • Identify operational problems and recommend solutions.
    • Update unit-specific databases and spreadsheets.
  • Special Projects
    • Research and gather information for special projects.
    • May supervise subordinate staff and student employees.
Requirements
  • Education
    • High school diploma.
  • Experience
    • Five years of related experience in a public, academic, or specialized library or archive.
  • Knowledge and Abilities
    • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
    • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
    • Basic keyboarding skills.
  • Preferred Knowledge and Abilities
    • Knowledge of general office practices and equipment.
    • Demonstrated computer competency, including Microsoft Windows, MS Office, and Internet services or applications.
    • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Working Conditions

This position requires working evenings and weekends. Occasional overnight may be required. Position requires on-campus, face-to-face interactions. Position requires maintaining a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

Salary

$14.43/hourly
