Manufacturing Engineer II

At Blue Origin, we're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems. As a Manufacturing Engineer II, you'll play a critical role in translating engineering intent into fully functional hardware ready for test, qualification, and flight. Your expertise will be essential in developing and supporting rocket assembly processes, ensuring quality, reducing costs, and optimizing build sequences and schedules.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain manufacturing work instructions to define fabrication, assembly, test, integration, and refurbishment processes.
- Closely manage quality, build sequence, and schedule of hardware throughout the manufacturing process.
- Perform engineering drawing reviews and provide final approval for manufacturing.
- Define and support repair and rework activities.
- Perform root cause analyses when non-conformances and escapes are identified and deploy corrective actions.
- Design proper material handling and packaging to protect hardware throughout the build and test process.
- Manage hardware configuration and maintain pedigree throughout the entire build and test process.
- Understand engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and manufacturing, including working knowledge of GD&T.
- Develop processes compliant to industry quality systems such as AS9100.
- Collaborate with diverse teams across large geographic distances.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university.
- Direct manufacturing and manufacturing engineering experience.
- Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills, including CAD, Scheduling, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
- Ability to develop processes compliant to industry quality systems such as AS9100.
- Extremely customer-focused with strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Physical Demands:
- Support production floor activities.
- Climb stairs and work in small areas.
- Lift and carry 40 lbs.
Desired Qualifications:
- Spray-on-Foam-Installation, Avionics, Fluid Systems experience.
- Continuous improvement mindset.
- Broad experience in hardware manufacturing: assembly, integration, instrumentation, cleaning, non-destructive testing, leak testing, final acceptance testing of integrated hardware, fabrication, machining, etc.
- General proficiency with CAD.
- General proficiency with GD&T.
