Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the radiologist, the Diagnostic Imaging Specialist provides diagnostic service for patients of all ages undergoing diagnostic radiology and/or mammographic studies in the department of radiology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately interpret a physician's instructions, routine procedural protocols, prepare and operate the radiographic and mammographic equipment, associated software and equipment, and position the patient to capture the appropriate images.
  • Document all patient-related information in the radiology information system in a timely manner based on patient and radiologist workflow.
  • Acquire patients' chart data/requisition and reviews both to determine correct room set-up and learn of any specific medical problems, contraindications to the study, and verify that the study being ordered correlates to the diagnostic needs.
  • Maintain all aspects of the radiographic and mammographic area, including technical and clerical components, to ensure proper quality assurance results, maintenance of required documentation, and keep the area in a state of inspection readiness and compliance.
  • Educate patients regarding procedure, equipment, and exam to ensure understanding and safety.
  • Provide coverage as needed, including in the event of call-off or extended patient schedules.
  • Provides instruction/mentoring to new hires and continuously strive to learn new technical information and skills through attendance of periodic in-service programs and participation in professional affiliation programs.

Requirements

  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT), RT
  • Registered by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (RTR). Connecticut Radiographer License
  • Two years of Mammographic, CT scan, MR, and radiologic technologist experience
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
