Forensic RN Job Description

Cleveland Clinic is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Forensic Registered Nurse to join our team. As a Forensic RN, you will play a critical role in providing timely and accurate clinical assessment, care, intervention, and documentation for patients who have been sexually assaulted, victims of child abuse, elder abuse, interpersonal violence, or assault.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a safety plan before patient discharge
  • Provide resources for follow-up medical care and referrals for post-care support services to the patient
  • Collaborate with medical and nursing staff, law enforcement, prosecutor, protective services, advocates, and other agencies as needed
  • Perform speculum exams and/or pediatric assessments under the supervision of a licensed independent practitioner
  • Utilize thorough knowledge of anatomy and body structures and mechanisms and patterns of injury
  • Collect and manage forensic evidence with a Sexual Assault Exam Collection (SAEC) kit and a Drug Facilitated Sexual Assault kit (DFSA)
  • Interact and collaborate with medical and nursing staff, law enforcement, prosecutor, protective services, advocates, and other agencies as needed
  • Work independently and demonstrate organizational and time management skills
  • Travel to other Cleveland Clinic facilities as needed
  • Attend continuing education as a sexual assault nurse
  • Participate in 75% of staff meetings and attend and complete annual SANE competency
  • Utilize clear and concise written documentation skills and articulate clearly
  • Use a camera appropriately for photo documentation of injuries and/or evidence
  • Provide court testimony as needed
  • Participate in community awareness programs and professional development

Requirements:

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • One year of recent RN work experience
  • Trauma, Women's Health, or Pediatric experience preferred
