Position Overview

The Senior Vice President of Engineering and Construction Operations is tasked with providing strategic, project, and commercial leadership for the successful execution of comprehensive Engineer, Procure, Construct (EPC) projects. This role encompasses the oversight of project profitability, operational efficiency, and timely delivery of services. The incumbent will be responsible for establishing and implementing essential tools, systems, policies, and procedures to enhance the EPC Operations of New River Electrical Corporation, including strategies for business/client development, bidding and procurement processes, contracting methodologies, and project controls.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, lead, and mentor the EPC Operations team, fostering an environment that encourages excellence and professional growth.
  • Contribute to the formulation and execution of the company’s strategic plan, aligning short-term and long-term objectives with the organization’s vision and values.
  • Uphold the highest standards of business ethics and promote the core values of New River Electrical Corporation.
  • Collaborate with various divisions to achieve organizational goals and objectives.
  • Direct and guide EPC Operations strategies and initiatives.
  • Identify and implement innovative policies, processes, and technologies to enhance project execution and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure that departmental plans align with the company’s strategic priorities and objectives.
  • Provide expert guidance and support to project management teams on EPC-related decisions.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to team members.
  • Manage employee relations in accordance with company policies.
  • Assess training needs for EPC Operations staff and ensure effective training programs are in place.
  • Foster a culture of high performance, continuous improvement, and safety.
  • Oversee the division’s budget and financial performance.
  • Deliver regular performance updates to executive leadership.
  • Lead business development efforts to position New River Electrical Corporation as a preferred EPC contractor.
  • Evaluate RFP opportunities and contribute to the development of bidding strategies.
  • Coordinate with the Estimating department to prepare accurate bids and proposals.
  • Work closely with the Contracts department to manage contract negotiations and compliance.
  • Train project teams on effective project management practices and safety protocols.
  • Develop tools for project reporting, safety audits, and compliance monitoring.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project schedules to track progress and forecast completion timelines.
  • Prepare project initiation plans, including resource allocation and safety strategies.
  • Conduct job site safety audits to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements and manage permit submissions.
  • Establish vendor management policies for procurement of materials and services.
  • Maintain strong relationships with engineering and construction subcontractors to ensure project alignment.
  • Ensure timely procurement of materials and equipment to meet project specifications.
  • Communicate effectively with project stakeholders to address any issues that arise.
  • Manage project budgets and proactively identify financial risks.
  • Develop cash flow projections and oversee billing processes.
  • Demonstrate expertise in project risk management and capitalize on opportunities.
  • Implement project close-out procedures to ensure all documentation is completed accurately.
  • Maintain organized project files and documentation.
  • Assist the EPC Operations team in resolving client and vendor-related issues.
  • Support project management with a focus on scope and change order management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, business administration, or a related field, with a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven leadership experience with at least 5 years in managing high-performing teams.
  • Demonstrated success in leading construction projects within the electric utility sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of procurement strategies, project management, and vendor relations.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and related software.

Travel Requirements

This position requires travel, including overnight stays.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands of this role include the ability to see, talk, and hear, as well as prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
